OTC maintains several programs of basic and applied research conducted by faculty and graduate students. In addition to creating new knowledge and finding practical solutions to real-world problems, faculty are engaged in the transfer of technology to support government agencies, industry and other entities involved in the transportation and telecommunications enterprises.

The role of OTC includes promoting collaborative research among the university researchers and their counterparts in industry and government, coordinating interdisciplinary research activities, and facilitating the process by which research funding is obtained and administered. OTC's affiliations with other research centers and institutes at Oklahoma State University and the University of Oklahoma help maximize its potential and broaden the scope of its services.

  • Traffic operations and safety;
  • Energy and the environment;
  • Intelligent transportation systems;
  • Information and telecommunications infrastructure;
  • Public transportation; and
  • Transportation planning, policy and finance.
