The
goal of the transportation engineering program at Oklahoma State University
is to provide students with the technical and management skills required
for professional work in both the public and private sectors. The program
encompasses all major modes of transporting people and freight and involves
the areas of planning, design, operations, management, maintenance, and
evaluation of transportation systems.
The school
of Civil and Environmental Engineering offers two graduate programs in
the areas of transportation systems and Transportation materials. These
programs are structured around core transportation engineering courses
and supporting courses in other areas of civil engineering or other disciplines.
In recognition of the interdisciplinary nature of transportation problems,
students have the opportunity to take courses offered by many academic
departments at OSU. Relevant courses are taught by faculty with diverse
backgrounds and research interests in Civil & Environmental Engineering,
Industrial Engineering & Management, Electrical & Computer Engineering,
Geography, Statistics, Economics, Political Science, and Management.
In response to industry's need for skilled telecommunications management graduates,
OSU offers a Master of Science degree in telecommunications management. This
Program draws on the expertise of three OSU Colleges - the College of Arts and Sciences, the College
of Business Administration, and the College of Engineering, Architecture
and Technology. As a result, the telecommunications management student
will have a traditional home department to achieve a depth of knowledge
in one discipline, while developing broad knowledge in business, technical
(computer science, electrical engineering, management science and information
systems), and communications disciplines.
Transportation
research at OSU enriches the learning process by involving students in
research projects that deal with today’s complex transportation problems
and issues. Excellent laboratory and computer facilities are available
for advanced academic and research work.
